Welcome to Range Valley, population 5,625.
Last we left the Van Herten family, Benjamin had just discovered that Marshall fathered a daughter with an old fling from university.
Marshall is a wonderful father to Max, their son together, but the thought of another child wandering Range Valley upsets Benjamin a great deal.
Benjamin confronts Marshall when he arrives home. Ben is pregnant, and upset, and lets his husband have the full force of his feelings.
“Were you going to tell me? About your daughter?”
“What does it matter? That’s not my family! You, Max, and this baby are my family.”
“Until something better comes along, you mean.”
“Of course not, Ben. Come on. What do you need me to do?”
“Talk to the mother? I don’t know. But you can’t just pretend your daughter doesn’t exist.”
After much discussion, Marshall agrees, and Ben makes the call.
The initial meeting doesn’t go very well.
“Look. See the wedding ring? I’ve moved on, Marshall, and he loves Karima like his own. You don’t have to be her dad, but you have to accept that she’s here.”
The two make peace, and agree to move on. Marshall has no desire to take over from Ira as Karima’s dad, and Ruqayyah has no interest in interfering with the Van Herten household.
Speaking of the Van Herten family, the new arrival is making an appearance.
Ben gives birth to a little girl, who they name Ruth.
And Max grows up! He definitely looks like a good mix of his dads.
Ben heads back to work as a teacher. Weirdly enough, Max got a snow day, but Ben still had to go to work!
Ruth’s birthday swings round quickly!
And she is so cute!
And the family take time to have a little Van Herten dance party.
Time moves quickly, and Ruth learns her last few words before growing up.
Looking cute, little one!
And one last look at the Van Herten family, as it currently stands.
